Duct Bank Properties

Duct bank properties can be viewed and changed through the Properties window.
Through this window you can view and modify only those properties that are visible to the user.
This is important as the properties not visible to the user are different for ducts drawn by command Innerducts,
so it’s not possible to use Properties window for subsequent change of the duct type.

With this in mind, all duct bank types and innerducts have the same set of properties, but the values of individual properties vary.

Note: Crossing ducts properties are different, but the method of working in the Properties window is the same.

If the Properties window is already open, it is enough to select the duct bank in the drawing and its properties will be displayed.

Note:

Pay attention to select only one polyline representing the duct bank.
Otherwise, *VARIES* will be displayed in fields where properties differ.
Pressing the ESC key deselect all objects, and then select the one that interests you.

If the Properties window is not open, open it in the following way:

First select the object whose properties interest you.
Right-click anywhere on the desktop, to open the context menu, and then select the Properties command from it.
Properties  window opens (Figure 1), with the properties of the selected object (in this case the duct bank).

Properties  window is divided into the following groups:

  • General - contains data about the object layer, line type etc.
  • Geometry - contains data on the geometry of the object
  • Misc - miscellaneous properties
  • TCG global properties - explained later in the text
  • Duct bank  - explained later in the text
  • Duct bank length  - explained later in the text

The group is opened and closed by left double-clicking on the gray bar with the group name or single clicking on the arrow at the grey bar’s right end.

Object type is displayed at the top of the Properties window. (Duct bank belongs to the polyline type, therefore "Polyline" will be displayed.)

Note:

General, Geometry and Misc are AutoCAD properties and you can find out about them on the Autodesk website.

Modifying data

Properties names are on the left side of the window and their values are on the right.
Values that can not be changed are in the gray fields, and those that can are in the white fields.

Values are changed by clicking on their fields.
There are two options, either a drop-down list appears from which you select the predefined values or it’s enabled to directly enter them into the field.

TCG properties:

The properties we are most interested in are the TCG properties:

TCG Global Properties:

  • TCG Object Identifier
  • Note - in this field enter remarks concerning the selected duct bank
  • Owner - (owner of the infrastructure)

Duct Bank:

  • Duct type - from drop-down list select one of the listed duct types
  • Duct diameter  - from drop-down list select one of the listed diameters
  • Number of duct rows - enter the number
  • Number of duct columns  - enter the number
  • Spacer gap - enter the distance between the ducts, in cm
  • Duct bank status - from the drop-down list select between:
    • Designed
    • Built
  • Year built - enter the construction year of selected duct bank

Duct bank length

  • Duct length - length obtained from the drawing
  • Correction factor - length by which the trench length is reduced
(correction factor is required in order to subtract the duct bank length by which it passes through the manhole)
  • Total length - the length of the trench minus the correction factor
  • Fixed length - the length entered on the basis of on-site data (As-Built length).
If entered, it’s displayed on the cable label, and if it not, the length obtained from the drawing is displayed.
(It can vary from the trench length, especially in hilly terrains, as the trench length is a projection of the fixed length)
