Refreshing ports connectivity information

Database > Refresh Ports Connectivity command is available from the main menu of Fiber Splicing [Equipement] window.

By running  Database > Refresh Ports Connectivity command information about which ports (connectors) are occupied is obtained from GIS database.

The command is used when a distribution frame (ODF/OTB) is loaded into the drawing from GIS database, while at the same time not all cables which are connected to it are loaded.
By running the command, occupied ports (connectors) will be marked.

Procedure

Let us assume that only one OTB is loaded into the drawing from GIS database, and nothing else (not even the route).
Since there are no loaded cables in the drawing, OTB does not even show the arrangement of fibers on ports (connectors) (Figure 1).
This means that the fibers are not connected to the ports of this OTB.

By running  Database > Refresh Ports Connectivity command an actual status can be observed.

After running the command, TeleCAD-GIS informs us that the data has been acquired (Figure 2).

After clicking OK, occupied ports (connectors) get a yellow label on the left with ID number of the cable and fiber connected to the given port (Figure 3).
(Depending on the status in GIS database ports can be: all free; some occupied; all occupied. In the example 12 ports are occupied.)

Now that we have information about the occupation of ports, we can take a step further if necessery.
Right-clicking on a yellow label opens the context menu (Figure 4)
from where we can run two very useful commands:

  • Load DB Fiber Circuit into Drawing
  • Load Immediate FO Cable into Drawing.

Command: Load DB Fiber Circuit into Drawing

This command will load all the cables and nodal elements of the selected fiber circuit into the drawing from GIS database.
In this manner all the fiber elements will be loaded starting from the current distribution frame as far as the fiber circuit goes uninterrupted.

Command: Load Immediate FO Cable into Drawing.

This command will load only the cable of the selected fiber which is directly connected to the current distribution frame and the first following nodal element of that same cable into the drawing from GIS database.

In both cases, related elements of duct bank and route will be loaded together with fiber optics infrastructure elements.
Loaded fibers become visible and available for further processing within Fiber splicing [Equipement] window (Figure 5).
